About
I’m Vadzim Shender, a principal software engineer at PandaDoc, based in Lisbon. I’m interested in algorithms, functional programming (OCaml holds a special place), distributed systems, software architecture, and — these days — AI: engineering systems around LLMs, and what happens to the craft of building software when much of the code is written by machines.
I’ve been an Emacs user for some twenty years. My config is not finished yet. It never will be, and that’s the point.
I taught at a university earlier in my life and loved it; this site is partly a way to keep scratching that itch — writing things down until they make sense.
Away from the keyboard, I listen to a lot of music (mostly metal, progressive above all) and play guitar and bass — I used to be the guitarist of Omut, a Belarusian folk metal band. I also love reading, especially science fiction.
